The Kingston native got his start in the entertainment industry with an appearance in the 1998 film, Belly. He was featured on the soundtrack of the film in a collabo with DMX. He was quickly picked up by VP Records who released his debut album, Stage One, in 2000. The album set the stage for his sophomore release, Dutty Rock which sold over six million copies. It featured the singles "Get Busy" and "Like Glue" and earned Sean Paul the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Reggae album. He was also featured on the #1 Beyonce track, "Baby Boy", and suddenly became the biggest Reggae star in the US.

He followed up with his aptly titled third album, The Trinity, which featured the #1 single "Temperature". The album was certified Platinum and Sean Paul tour dates were booked on an international promotional concert series. He released his last album, Imperial Blaze, in 2009 and has been in the studio ever since to carefully craft a follow-up.
